10 Best Wedding Dance Videos Since The Invention of YouTube
Putting a wedding together is tantamount to preparing the opening night for a Broadway play – production staff needs to be hired, schedules need to be distributed, seating arrangements must be made, wardrobe must be ready, VIPs must be taken care of… It’s a huge deal. And for anyone who has put a wedding together or watched someone do it, you know that planning a wedding can suck all the fun out of a day that is supposed to be one of the greatest celebrations of your life – just ask Simon and Rochelle of Road to the Altar, a couple that has a documentary crew follow them around as they plan their wedding.
There is nothing worse than spending a fortune on an event you won’t even enjoy. This is why so many couples are choosing to lighten up the ceremony and create a night no one will forget, by showing off their dance moves and putting it on the Internet for everyone to see. In fact, the Wall Street Journal reports that it’s a legitimate trend which has spawned new wedding choreography companies that charge $1,000 for lessons!
Here’s a collection of the 10 best wedding dance videos since the invention of YouTube – some of which have been viewed by over 50 million people. Now that’s a Guest List!
Road to the Altar, The Wedding Planner – Episode 1
1. Jill & Kevin – Forever
The JK Wedding Entrance Dance is arguably the most popular of all wedding dance videos. The couple married on June 2, 2009 and released the video that July. Within 48 hours, the video was viewed 3.5 million times. To date, it’s been viewed close to 60 million times. That’s like inviting Italy to come see your wedding. The video features the entire wedding party dancing their way to the altar to Chris Brown’s Forever. The couple was invited to talk about the phenomenon on The Today Show and even did an encore there.
2. Teresa & Andrew – Afrika Bambaataa/Looking For the Perfect Beat
Married on July 3, 2005, Teresa and Andrew decided to fool their guests with a rather modern version of the first dance. They aren’t the most popular wedding dance video, trailing behind JK by almost 50 million views, but with an upload date of July 27, 2006, they were one of the first to start the dancing trend.
3. Chippendales – A JK Dance Parody
For every viral video, there are a number of parodies and copies. The JK Wedding Entrance Dance is no exception. With so many versions of the dance, it’s hard to stand out. However, when the Chippendales dancers decide to dance down the aisle for their manager’s wedding, you know you’re going to see something you haven’t seen before. *Make sure to catch the bride’s unforgettable entrance at the end.
4. Liz & Clay – Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)/Crank That (Soulja Boy)
When Liz and Clay celebrated their 10th anniversary, they went all out: tuxedos, formal wedding gown and a hip hop medley with a choreographed dance routine. *Don’t miss the kids doing the Crank That Soulja Boy Dance.
5. The Brubakers – Baby Got Back
Weddings are a time of tradition and elegance. It’s a time to learn how to waltz and slow dance with your spouse. This is probably because you don’t always look good thrusting your pelvis in a white gown. The Brubakers didn’t seem to have a problem with that.
6. Pam & Jim – A JK Dance Parody
Although they’re not a “real” couple, Pam and Jim from The Office have been in our lives as long as some of our best friends – and millions of people tuned in to see them tie the knot. When they decided to get married, they did what any hip, young couple would do: their own version of the JK dance. *Make sure to catch Dwight coming down the aisle.
7. Julia & James – (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life
1987’s Dirty Dancing featured some of the hottest dancing on the silver screen. Leads Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey showed us how dancing could be an aphrodisiac. So it makes sense to do a little dirty dancing of your own on your wedding night. That’s what Julia and James did. From the moves to the outfits, they reenacted one of the most famous dance scenes ever.
Nobody puts Julia in a corner.
8. Monika & Nicholas – Sing, Sing, Sing
Most wedding dance videos involve people in uncomfortable clothing trying to act cool in front of all the people they care about. This is not the case for Monika and Nicholas. They wowed the crowd. With some serious old school jazz moves, they brought energy, dexterity and talent to their wedding dance.
9. Vicky & Ben – Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)
With thousands, maybe millions, of wedding videos on the Internet, how is it possible come up with something new? How about a full wardrobe change? Not enough? How about making your back up dancers your brothers while doing a rendition of Single Ladies? I hope these guys aren’t thinking of running for office some day.
10. Wedding Thriller Dance
If there is a video that challenges the success of the JK Wedding Dance Video, it’s the Wedding Thriller Dance. Emulating one of the most famous dances of all time, this wedding party started their own trend: Thriller at weddings. The video was so popular that Michael Jackson himself marked this video as one of his YouTube “favorites.” When the King of Pop performed this piece, I bet he didn’t know it would become a wedding favorite – right up there with the Electric Slide.
