A Timeline of Film’s Favorite High School Nerds
For those who have trouble fitting in, high school can be traumatizing. Only a rare few can successfully juggle the stress of school work with an ever-changing body, bullies, and girls who are more impressed with muscles than a vast knowledge of superheroes. So what’s a high schooler to do? Well, many turn to movies for support. Flip on a high school film from the last 30 years and you’re likely to find an anti-hero much like yourself, struggling to get by in a world full of John Benders and Chet Donnelleys. Our own show “MacAwesome” follows Josh, a nerdy kid trying to survive his first public high school experience. In the vein of the nerdy protagonists in films like Weird Science and Sixteen Candles, Josh is struggling to score his dream girl (and she certainly is one hell of a dream girl – see the video below) but he is (unsurprisingly to us) finding that mission quite challenging. Which brings us to our point: the geeks in Hollywood movies can’t save you from real life, but they do make real life seem a little less intimidating. In honor of geeks everywhere, below is a visual timeline of film’s favorite high school nerds, from “The Rat” to “McLovin”. So sit back, and relax: no one will call you “Four eyes” here. You’re amongst peers.

Classic nerd alert! But why’s the dude on the left have his hand on the floaty??
I’m sorry, but you only gave Brian from TBC, not to mention Wyatt and Gary from Weird Science, an ‘honorable mention’. That’s like saying Bruce Springsteen gets an honorable mention for Jersey musicians. Then you left out Seth Green’s ‘Kenny’ from Cain’t Hardly Wait, Jim from American Pie?
Worst. Timeline. Ever.
Three O’Clock High
duh.
the rushmore quote isn’t “yeah i was the shit” max asked mr. blood if he was “IN THE SHIT” regarding ‘Nam in which case, Mr. Blood, played by Bill Murray, who says “yeah, i was in the shit.”
“i saved latin! what did you ever do?” would be a more appropriate quote for max fischer.
Love everyone of these nerds. Mr Miyage would be proud.
I was a high school nerd… Look at me now. A grown up nerd.

napolean dynamite beats Brian?! What-the-f*ck-ever!
ohhh the geeks…where would we be with out them.
It can get really annoying, though, whenever you meet someone, they always say “You look just like that guy from Superbad! Yeah, McLovin!”
I like to point out that he was the only one that got laid in that movie.
