Crowdfunding: A Chance to Enhance Your Entertainment Options

By T6W Staff

Crowdfunding is the industry term used to describe the collective effort of individuals who network and pool their resources, usually via the Internet, to support efforts initiated by other people or organizations. It has become the number one means of fundraising for independent filmmakers who have few other funding sources available to them.

Crowdfunding provides the public with the opportunity to donate money in support of creative projects they have an interest in.  Creative projects may be in the form of movies, short films, documentaries, and television Shows, though crowdfunding is not limited to these creative categories. Generally speaking, in exchange for the donation people make to a project, they receive “benefits” which can range from a T-Shirt to an Executive Producer credit on the respective project.

Why should you consider supporting the creative projects of others? The short answer is a simple one – the entertainment industry is a massive industry filled with material numbers of talented people, only a few of which squeeze through the dime-sized pipeline into traditional Hollywood. And Hollywood generally gets first dibs on most available funding. The legions of incredibly talented people (who for no other reason than the fact that Hollywood has blinders on) who need funding to pursue their creative passions, are left to finance their projects in the most difficult of ways – finding sponsors and advertisers and by calling in a lifetime of favors from other talented entertainers, or from friends and family. They simply need your help.

The long answer to the question is just that – long – so we’re working on a separate crowdfunding story which will take you into the depths of the new media world and provide you with insights which, we believe, will be educational, if not eye opening.

While that story is in process, we hope you will visit the crowdfunding campaigns of some of KoldCast TV’s innovative filmmaker partners who are using crowdfunding as a means to bring you creative new entertainment options and, perhaps, show your support with a contribution comfortable for your budget.
